Select Ironton merchants will soon display Ironton aLive posters reflecting the colors and logos of different high schools in Lawrence County as part of the “I”Town Scavenger Hunt.

“We want to incorporate all businesses in Ironton,” Katrina Keith, chair of Ironton aLive, said. “If this goes over well we’ll have as many as we can. The main goal of Ironton aLive is supporting local businesses and getting people into their stores. We think this will do just that.”

The scavenger hunters’ mission is to visit the 10 participating merchants and locate the Ironton aLive poster. Then, record the name of the school posted there on the official scavenger hunt form, which can be picked up at the Ironton Farmers Market on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 220 S. Second St. in Ironton.

After Saturday forms can be picked up during regular business hours at Printing Express at 1229 S. Third St.

“(The scavenger hunt) is just another effort to get people into the shops in Ironton,” Steve Call, Ironton aLive promotions chair, said. “We’re hoping to and most likely will extend outside the downtown area.”

The weeklong hunt lasts from Saturday, Sept. 6, until noon on Saturday, Sept. 13, which is the latest time completed forms can be returned to the Farmers Market. Forms will also be accepted at Printing Express.

Prizes will be awarded in “Ironton Bucks,” which are redeemable at local merchants. Awards are: $250 for first place; $100 for second place; $50 for third place; $50 for fourth place; $25 for fifth place; and $25 for sixth place.

A drawing will be conducted at the Farmers Market at noon on Saturday, Sept. 20, to determine the winners.

“We plan to do this type of thing a couple times at least and change the participating businesses each time,” Call said. “Ironton aLive has several things planned to get feet in the streets and into businesses in Ironton.”

Specific rules, terms and conditions apply and can be viewed at Printing Express and on Ironton aLive’s Facebook page.
