Ray Adams

Ray W. Adams, 86, of Ironton, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Lawrence County native was born May 2, 1928, to John and Frances (Hazlett) Adams. Ray is survived by his wife of 13 years, Betty (Stapleton) Adams.

In addition to his wife, Ray is survived by a daughter, Violet Ford, of Ashland, Ky.; and four stepchildren, Tom Stapleton, of Columbus, Bill (Carolyn) Stapleton, of Ironton, Luanna Buckner, of Columbus, and Leslie (Joe) Christian, of Kitts Hill.

Ray also had three grandchildren; a great grandson; 13 stepgrandchildren; 22 step great-grandchildren; and many step great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his first wife, Hilda (Hilgenberg) Adams; a brother, Roy Adams; a sister, Faye Adams; a grandson, David Ford; and a stepdaughter, Lori (Tom) Baker.

Ray served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany, and he retired from Armco/AK Steel with 41 years of service. He was a longtime member of Jeffersonville Missionary Baptist Church. Ray loved his Lord and wanted everyone else to know Him, too.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Jeffersonville Missionary Baptist Church in Coal Grove with brother Roger Pierce officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Woodland Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the VFW Post No. 8850. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home in Ironton. The body will also lay in rest at the church one hour before the service on Thursday.

Harold Gordon II

Harold James Gordon II, 61, of Ironton, died on Aug. 25, 2014, at King’s Daughter Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.

He was born Aug. 9, 1953, in Ironton to Harold J. Gordon and the late Betty J. Gordon.

Harold was the husband of Mary Katherine (Gardner) Gordon.

Harold was an Ironton High School graduate. He attended The Ohio State Univeristy, was a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity as well a member of the Phi Beta Sigma band in which he played the trombone. He later graduated from Ohio University Southern with a bachelor’s in communications. He retired from the Lawrence County Department of Job and Family services as an eligibility supervisor after 30 years of service. He was an active member and lay minister of the Quinn Chapel Church.

Survivors include a son and daughter, James (Kendra) Gordon and Jessica Gordon; one sister, Susan (Glenn) Gordon-Jackson, of Southfield, Mich.; a brother, Thomas (Mirijana) Gordon, of Reynoldsburg; aunt, Margaret (Arthur) Bullard, of Cleveland; nieces and nephews, Jasmyne Jackson, of Southfield, Mich., Randy Gordon, of Reynoldsburg, and Jett, Erica, Zarrien and Zarriah Troxler, of Greenup, Ky.; and a host of family and friends.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Quinn Chapel AME Church in Ironton with the Rev. James H. Stowe officiating.

 

 

Ruth McMackin

Ruth A. McMackin, 92, of Ironton, died Aug. 31, 2014, in Lexington, Ky. Arrangements are pending at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home.
