CG Lions Club to hold benefit golf scramble

The Coal Grove Lions Club annual golf scramble will be held Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Ironton Country Club.

Entry fee is $150 for a three-man team. A free dinner will be served by the Coal Grove Giovanni’s Pizza. Door prizes plus course competition prizes will be awarded.

Basketball officiating

class to start Sept. 13

The Ironton Chapter of Ohio High School Basketball Officials in conjunction with the Ohio High School Athletic Association will offer a licensing class beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Chesapeake Middle School.

The class consists of rule interpretation, officiating mechanics and live on-court officiating of high school scrimmages.

Fee is $140 and covers all testing and initial license with the class participant responsible for his or her officiating uniform.

Bobcat Bash planned

for UK, Herd games

Ohio University will sponsor three pre-game alumni Bobcat Bash prior to the Marshall and Kentucky games.

They will be from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, at Lawn of Bruce Poundstone, Regulatory Services Building, 1600 University Court, Lexington, Ky., the Bobcats play Kentucky in Lexington, Ky.,;

And from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Cam Henderson Center, 1801 S. Third St., Huntington, W.Va., prior to the Marshall game.

Alumni and friends are invited to enjoy food and drinks as they reconnect with fellow Bobcats.

Admission price includes two drink tickets redeemable for alcoholic beverages. Non-alcoholic beverages will be available.

Ironton-Portsmouth offers cage officiating class

The Ironton and Portsmouth chapters of the Southeastern Ohio Basketball Officials Association is offering a class for beginning officials.

Fee is $65 and begins Monday, Sept. 29, and lasts six weeks (25 classroom hours and numerous scrimmages to work).

The class is a requirement for all new officials who want to referee OHSAA sanction games junior high thorugh high school.

Persons must first register only with the OHSAA and pay your Ohio fee by credit card. No other form of payment is accepted for the OHSAA state fee. Go to OHSAA.org and click on the “officiating” link and then click on “becoming an official.”

 

River Cities basketball officials class planned

The River Cities Basketball Officials Association will conduct its annual training class beginning at 6 p.m. Wedensday, Oct. 6, at Chesapeake High School.

The class is approved by the Ohio High School Athletic Associatio and West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission.

Those who register in Ohio must first register only with the OHSAA and pay your Ohio fee by credit card. No other form of payment is accepted for the OHSAA state fee. Go to OHSAA.org and click on the “officiating” link and then click on “becoming an official.”

Instruction covers fundamentals, rules, floor coverage, positioning, game administration and game management.

Legal-ethical components relevant to officiating are also covered. Applicants will participate in officiating scrimmage games.

Cost of class is $85 plus the state registration fees which are an additional $65 for Ohio and $42 for West Virginia.

Classes meet Mondays and Wednesdays for approximately seven weeks. Each class is three hours for a total of 39 hours of instruction.

 

Women’s NSA slowpitch tournament planned

A West Virginia NSA women’s Upper/Lower slowpitch tournament will be held Saturday, Aug. 30, at St. Cloud Field in Huntington.

It is a sanctioned double elimination tournament. Awards will be given to the top two teams.

Entry fee is $150 and all teams must be sanctioned with the NSA thorugh the www.playnsa.com website.
