Janet Smathers

Janet Ruth Smathers, 58, of Wheelersburg, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky., after a courageous battle with cancer, with her family at her side.

She was born Aug. 25, 1956, a daughter of the late John and Opal Spears. She was a nurse caregiver and would help anyone that she could and was of the Protestant faith.

She was preceded in death also by a brother, William (Uncle Bo) Spears.

She is survived by her fiancé at home, Ron Selmek; two sons, Todd (Shannon) Smathers, of Willow Wood, and Brian (Kim) Smathers, of Ironton; a brother, Russell Spears; five sisters, Joyce Jeffers, Sue Hofstetter, Peach Webb and Debbie Holly, all of Huntington, and Betty Ward of Bucyrus; three grandchildren, Katyln and Tobey Smathers, and Chris Pemberton; special friend, Sue Hanlin; and a host of family and friends. She was Mommaw to numerous children whose heart she touched.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Brown Funeral Chapel with pastor Roger Smathers officiating. Burial will follow in the Locust Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral chapel. Friends and family can share condolences and memories on the Facebook page of the Brown Funeral Chapel.

Her family has entrusted her care to Brown Funeral Chapel in Ironton.

 

 

Earl Dennison

Earl Franklin Dennison, 75, of Clayton, N.C., formerly of Willow Wood, went to be with the Lord, on Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, at home. He was born Nov. 16, 1938, in Proctorville, son of the late Ernie and Hazel Carpenter Dennison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Don Dennison; one son, Richard Dennison; brother-in-law, Bill Whitley; and sister-in-law Sandra Dennison.

He was a self-employed truck driver and an avid race car fan. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patty Bowen Dennison; one son Frank (Teresa) Dennison, of Willow Wood; one daughter, Sheena (Steve) Massie, of Clayton, N.C.; six grandchildren, Frankie (Marion) Dennison, and his mother, Tracy Dennison, Jennifer Redden and fiancé, Brian Fowler, Michelle Wilson, Deanna Massie, Matthew Massie, Jordan Dennison and his mother, Michelle Wolfe; six great-grandchildren, Breanna, Taylor and Gabe Smith, Wyatt Wilson, J.J. Horn and Kalynn Dennison; numerous nieces and nephews; three sisters, Maxine Whitley, Linda and Norman Bailey, Sandy and Larry Rose; five brothers, Gordon and Norma Dennison, David and Grace Dennison; twin brothers, Jay Dennison, Paul and Ann Dennison, and Fred Dennison; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Glenda and Don Black; and sister-in-law, Pam Dennison.

Funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville by pastor Mike Triplett and pastor Danny Hayden. Visitation will be 1:30-3:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformernory.com/hall.

 

 

Betty Lovejoy

Betty Lee Lovejoy, 79, of Huntington, W.Va., died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home.
