Two Willow Wood men are in Huntington, W.Va., hospitals following a late morning shooting.

Roger White, 53, of 9849 County Road 2, and David Carter, 55, of 10051 County Road 2, had both stopped to help a motorcyclist who had just crashed his bike on County Road 2.
“Both had had some type of past bad blood between them,” Lawrence County Sheriff’s Detective Aaron Bollinger said. “That turned into a physical altercation.”

White had arrived at the scene of the crash with a small caliber semi-automatic handgun for which he had a concealed carry permit. The two men began fighting.
“Through the struggle a single shot was fired which went through the leg of Roger White and into the leg of David Carter,” Bollinger said.

White was shot in the leg and Carter received a wound to his left thigh.

White was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center and Carter to Cabell Huntington Hospital.
“Neither has life threatening injuries,” Bollinger said.

The shell casing, along with statements from witnesses, will be turned over to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office to determine what, if any, charges will be filed. Neither man is currently under arrest.
