Brickhouse to begin SilverSneakers classes
ROME TOWNSHIP — Starting in October Brickhouse Cardio in Proctorville will offer classes specifically for senior citizens.
“We’re really excited about the SilverSneakers program,” Angie George, owner of Brickhouse, said. “There is a large population of people who qualify for the program here in the Proctorville area and we are glad to offer them a nearby location. Until we got our approval, the closest fitness center that accepted Silver Sneakers members was in the west end of Huntington, W.Va.”
SilverSneakers classes are offered at 10:30 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning Oct. 6. George said one does not have to be a SilverSneakers member to participate. Both males and females are welcome to attend to 45-minute long class.
“SilverSneakers was created to help seniors live independently longer,” she said. “Some insurances even pay for senior citizens to attend. It’s good for them to do.”
SilverSneakers is a national program designed to get adults over the age of 65 more active. Brickhouse was named a top-100 Veteran Friendly Franchise by Franchise Business Review.
Brickhouse offers several classes geared toward women of all ages. George said the business has grown since she bought it this past December and attributes the success to the community.
“The community has just supported us amazingly,” she said.
The fitness center prides itself on offering classes in a relaxed environment that promotes its members to help one another.
“There is a very personal relationship between staff and the members we have here,” George said. “I’m not a nutritionist and we don’t have any that are technically on staff, but we have a few who come here. They all try and help each other and I think that’s what makes us different from other places.”
Brickhouse Cardio is located at 9267 County Road 107 and can be reached by calling 304-633-1970. Anyone interested in attending classes is encouraged to visit www.facebook.com/brickhousecardioclubproctorvilleoh.
