Lawrence Otworth

July 25, 1923 — Sept. 14, 2014

Lawrence Otworth, 91, of Lawrence County, passed away Sept. 14, 2014, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Ohio Furnace native was born July 25, 1923, a son of the late Henry and Minnie Ross Otworth. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Wilds Otworth, who passed away March 26, 2008.

Mr. Otworth attended Green Township Schools and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a former labor worker with the Labor Local Union No. 83. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the VFW Post 8850 and enjoyed hunting, gardening and reading.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by 10 brothers, Richard, Charles, Clifford, James, Frank, Otto, Joseph, Clarence, Elmer and Edward Otworth; and a sister, Mary Helen Otworth.

He is survived by a daughter, Mary M. Arthurs, of Franklin Furnace; two granddaughters, Lisa Marie (Christopher) Ashley and Tracy Maggard, all of Ironton; and four great-grandchildren, Brett Michael Ashley, Nicholas Tyler Ashley, Ryan Alexander Ashley and Katelyn Elaine Maggard, all of Ironton.

Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Church at 57 Private Road 1059 County Road 26 in Ironton with Father David Huffman officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery with military graveside rites by VFW Post 8850. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home. The body will lay in rest from 10-10:30 a.m. Friday, at which time there will be a prayer service at the funeral home. Precession will immediately follow to St. Mary’s Church for Mass. Wilma McCarley

Jan. 25, 1925 — Sept. 15, 2014

Wilma Ruth McCarley, 89, formerly of Prairieton, Ind., passed away Sept. 15, 2014, in Williamsport, Ind. She was born in Ohio on Jan. 25, 1925, to William F. and Louella (Harvey) Smith. Mrs McCarley was a retired bookkeeper from Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. She had also worked at the former Root’s Department Store. She had been an active member of the Prairieton Fire Department Auxiliary and the Prairieton United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crafts and archery. Her husband, Arwine “Mac” McCarley, passed away in 2010.

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara L. Moffett, and her husband, Jim; a son, Michael P. McCarley, and his wife, Betty; grandchildren, Steve McCarley, Brady Moffett, and Whitney Jones; and great-grandchildren Keaton McCarley, Paige McCarley, Avery McCarley, Chloe Jones, Nora Jones, Barrett Moffett, Hallie Moffett and Logan Moffett. She was preceded by a brother, Harvey Smith; a sister, Lois Vaughn; two half-sisters, Hilda Crawford and Beatrice Kessler; and three half-brothers, Albert Smith, Harry Smith and Gene Smith.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel with Jerry Holdman officiating and the Prairieton Fire Department Auxiliary giving its memorial. Friends may call from noon until service time Friday. Burial will be in New Harmony Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Prairieton Volunteer Fire Department. Barbara Dillon

Barbara Dillon, of Rowlett, Texas, died July 16, 2014. There will be a memorial service at Zoar Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Saturday.
