COAL GROVE — It looks like 10 is the new six for the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers.

Although there are only six players on a volleyball court at a time, Ironton used a total 10-man effort to get past the Coal Grove Lady Hornets in an Ohio Valley Conference game Tuesday, 14-25, 25-14, 25-19 and 25-21.

“All coaches love to win any game, but I can’t express how much of a team effort was played tonight,” said Ironton coach Beth Campbell.

“The girls — all 10 of them — had the same goal and from the bench to the court, their energy was contagious.”

Jordan “Straight Ace” Hannan led the Lady Tiger with 22 points followed by Lexie Washington and Taylor Hannan with 17 each. Macy Wise had 14 points and Alyssa Lewis 11.

Kayla Landers scored 17 points, Shae Willis 15 and Rachel Webb 13 to lead Coal Grove.

Lexi Wise knocked down 17 kills, Washington 7 and Macy Wise 6 kills.

Jordan Hannan also had 22 assists and Lewis 11. Tori Starr had a gritty performance with 13 digs and Taylor Hannan racked up 10.

Campbell said D’Laynie Keith — out half the season due to an appendicitis and back injury — and Kaylin Easterling contributed to the win.

“Keith and Easterling both contributed to our victory even though they aren’t mentioned in the stat sheet,” said Campbell. “They passed the ball well and called out zones for the server.”

In the reserve match, the Lady Hornets won 20-25, 25-21 and 25-21.

Alyssia Rowe scored 12 points, Ali White 8 and Kenzie Ashley 7 for the Lady Tigers.

Ironton hosts Fairland at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
