Early results have three area teams listed as contenders.

The Ironton Fighting Tigers in Division V, the Coal Grove Hornets in Div. VI, and the Symmes Valley Vikings in Div. VII are among the top 12 teams in their respective regions of the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s first weekly football computer ratings.

The top eight teams in each region of each division at the end of the regular season qualify for the postseason playoffs.

Ironton (3-1) is third in Region 17 with a 7.375 average. Columbus Eastmoor — who was dropped two divisions into the region a few weeks ago due to a recount after the closing of Columbus Brookhaven — leads the region. Eastmoor (4-0) has an 8.7 average.

Wheelersburg (4-0) is second at 7.725. Coshocton (4-0) is fourth at 6.775 followed by St. Clairsville (4-0) 6.7, Bishop Hartley (2-2) 5.1, Liberty Union (3-1) 4.4, Martins Ferry (3-1) 4.3346, River Valley (3-1) 4.325, and Waverly (2-2) at 3.95 is 10th.

Coal Grove (2-2) is 12th with a 3.725 average in Region 21. The Hornets host Waverly on Friday in a key point game.

Lucasville Valley (4-0) leads the region at 8.675. Fredericktown is second followed by Grandview Heights, Nelsonville-York, Columbus Bishop Ready, Oak Hill, Centerburg and tied for eighth is West Lafayette Ridgewood and Cardington Lincoln.

Oak Hill (3-1) has a 5.375 average, Centerburg (3-1) 5.025, Ridgewood (3-1) and Cardington (3-1) are at 4.325, Newark Catholic (3-1) is 10th at 4.275, and Columbus Academy (2-1) is 11th with a 4.1667 average.

Symmes Valley (2-2) is sitting at No. 11 in Region 25 with a 3.075 average ahead of South Gallia (2-2) at 2.575. The Vikings beat South Gallia last week.

State runner-up Trimble (4-0) leads the region with a 6.9 average followed by Shadyside (4-0) with a 6.4 average and Caldwell (4-0) at 6.225.

Tuscarawas Catholic (4-0) is fourth at 4.1376, then Millersport (4-0) at 5.0391, New Matamoras Frontier (4-0) 4.85, Paint Valley (2-2) 4.125, Harvest Prep (3-1) 3.6, Bellaire St. John (3-1) 3.325, and Danville (3-1) 10th at 3.25.
