A traffic stop turned foot chase resulted in a Coal Grove man behind bars and more drugs off the street early this morning.

Officers with the Ironton Police Department arrested James Bailey, 34, of 704 Lane St., at about 2:20 a.m.

Detective Joe Ross said officers stopped a vehicle in the 400 block of Delaware Street near Ironton Elementary School. Bailey allegedly fled on foot but was apprehended.

The man was charged with possession of drugs, Alpha-PVP, resisting arrest and possession of drug abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia.

“We’ve had a lot of complaints down in that area,” Ross said. “He was stopped right across from Ironton Elementary School.”

Ross said Alpha-PVP is a growing concern in the city because more people are using it and current probation drug tests do not indicate the substance in urine screens.

“We consider it a synthetic bath salt,” Ross said. “It is very prevalent in the city now.”

Bailey is scheduled to be arraigned in Ironton Municipal Court today.

IPD Capt. Mark Wilson, Sgt. Brian Pauley and PTR John Hammonds were credited with the bust.
