Opportunity knocked and the St. Joseph Flyers failed to answer the door.
The Flyers failed to capitalize on their scoring chances in a 2-1 soccer loss to the New Boston Tigers on Tuesday.
“Both teams played hard and aggressively. They won the defensive battle and we didn’t capitalize on our opportunities,” said Flyers’ coach Mike Balestra.
“New Boston kept playing wide and penetrating our defense. We played the middle of the field right into their defensive strength. That was the difference in the game.”
The game was tied 1-1 at the half as St. Joseph got a goal by Trey Neal.
Flyers’ goalie Joey Bush had 20 saves.
St. Joseph had 25 shots on goal, two corner kicks, two offside penalties and eight fouls. New Boston had 29 shots on goal, seven corner kicks, no offside penalties and two fouls.
St. Joseph (5-4-1) hosts South Point on Thursday.
