Flyers whip Adena, 6-1

PORTSMOUTH — A change of scenery changed the fortunes of the St. Joseph Flyers.

Coming off a loss to South Point, the Flyers turned in a solid performance as they beat Adena 6-1 Saturday in a game played at Shawnee State University’s soccer field.

“The team played well today,” said Flyers’ coach Mike Balestra. “We want to recognice and thank Shawnee State University for allowing us to play our game on their field. Both teams enjoyed playing on it.”

St. Joseph (6-5-1) took a 3-1 lead in the first half as Peyton Adkins, Bryson Canter and Zach McGraw all had goals.

Tre Neal, Bradley Rist and Trey Young had second half goals and Blake Balestra added two assists as the Flyers continued to pull away in the second half.

Jacob Clark, Daniel Davidson and Adkins each had an assist while goalkeeper Joey Bush turned away eight shots for saves.

The Flyers had 42 shots on goal to just 14 for Adena with eight corner kicks to only three for Adena.

St. Joseph had two fouls and one offside penalty. Adena had none in either category.

St. Joseph visits Wheelersburg at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
