MARQUEE MATCHUP: One of the most anticipated games this week in the state takes place at Booster Field in Maria Stein as defending Division VII state champion Marion Local takes on defending Division V state champion Coldwater. The teams are undefeated and share first place in the Midwest Athletic Conference. Last year the Flyers dominated the Cavaliers 47-14 en route to a perfect season, with Coldwater rebounding to run the rest of the table.

GETTING OFFENSIVE: Athens beat Steubenville 58-42 while scoring the most points by an opponent at Steubenville since Canton McKinley scored 60 in 1963; Seth Conley, a freshman in the same Ada system that produced Denver Broncos’ backup QB Zac Dysert, completed 33 of 50 passes for 375 yards and four TDs in a 61-14 win over Paulding; and Grafton Midview’s Dustin Crum has thrown for 1,428 yards and 16 TDs, and rushed for 653 yards and 10 TDs through six games.

GETTING A PROMOTION: Bo Kuenning won’t be seeing any more action in junior varsity games. The St. Marys Memorial freshman rushed 20 times for 182 yards and a touchdown as the Roughriders beat Celina 21-13 in the Battle of Grand Lake.

Kuenning entered the game with just 14 yards on three carries while playing primarily in JV games.

DOING IT ALL: Wauseon’s Zac Robinson ran for four TDs and threw for another in a 40-0 win over Hamler Patrick Henry, setting up a battle of unbeaten state-ranked teams this Friday at Delta, which blanked Montpelier 56-0 for its sixth win; Ada’s Seth Conley threw for 375 yards and five TDs while adding two rushing TDs in a 61-14 victory over Paulding; Anthony Carroll threw for five scores in Dayton Northridge’s 51-26 victory over New Lebanon Dixie; Brody Hoying ran for two scores and threw for two more in leading top-ranked Coldwater to a 41-0 win over Parkway.
