Riley returning to state tennis

ATHENS — Madison Riley is making a return trip.

The South Point Lady Pointers’ junior tennis player is headed back to the Division II state tournament this weekend at Ohio State University.

Riley won the sectional tournament in Portsmouth and advanced to the district when she won the tournament to earn the Southeast district’s No. 1 seed at the state event.

Riley beat Mikhaila Roe of Minford 6-0, 6-0 and then swept Sierra Sandy of Dover 6-0, 6-0 in the second round.

In the championship round she beat Sheridan McLean of Waverly 6-2, 6-0.

McLean earned a state tournament berth by beating Minda Martin of Chesapeake 6-0, 6-4, and Taylor Fair of Carrollton 6-4, 6-0.
