SOUTH POINT — After racing to a fast start, the South Point Pointers put it on cruise control.

An even though Marietta made a comeback, the Pointers still rode their first half play to a 3-2 win over the Tigers Tuesday in the Division II sectional soccer tournament.

“We played well as a team. We dominated in the first half,” said Pointers’ coach Zane Joy.

“They dominated in the second half. We played well enough to hold them off. I think we got a little complacent and nervous in the second half.”

South Point (16-1) will play at Vincent Warren at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Matt Krivan scored with an assist from Trey Kearns in the 14th minute to give the Pointers a 1-0 lead.

Krivan then got an unassisted goal at the 29:00 mark to lead 2-0 at the half.

Marietta cut the deficit to 2-1 on an unassisted goal by Christian Kendall.

Krivan then gave the Pointers the deciding goal on a free kick in the 70th minute.

Jared Feathers unassisted goal four minutes later for Marietta capped the scoring.

South Point goalkeeper Brady Rickard had eight saves while Marietta’s Michael Ullman had 11 saves.
