Obviously, winning is the key to making the Ohio High School Athletic Association postseason football playoffs.

But the question right now is who is going to win.

In Region 17 of Division V, the Ironton Fighting Tigers (5-1) have moved up a notch to No. 3 behind St. Clairsville (7-0) and Coshocton (7-0).

Ironton has three big point games left with Div. IV Meigs (3-4), Div. III Jackson (7-0) and Raceland (6-1) who is considered Div. VI in Ohio.

Meigs should win its final two games with Wellston and Alexander. Jackson is a virtual lock to beat Portsmouth and Gallipolis. Raceland faces district foes Fairview and Paintsville and should win both.

St. Clairsville has three wins ahead but won’t get many points. They play Edison (2-5), Buckeye Local (0-7) and Union Local (3-4).

Coshocton will win its final two games with Claymont (3-4) and River View (0-7). It will get a test this week from Div. III Dover (5-2).

Bishop Hartley (5-2) — fourth in this week’s computer ratings — stands to gain possibly the most points over the final three weeks, but two of those games loom as possible loses.

The Hawks play Beechcroft (7-0) this week followed by St. Francis DeSales (6-1). They close with rival Bishop Ready (5-2) in a game they should win.

Wheelersburg (6-1) is fifth this week in Region 17 and should beat Minford (5-2) this week. The Pirates close with Lucasville Valley (6-1) and Portsmouth West (5-2). Valley has beaten the Pirates the past three years and West upset Valley last week.

All three teams should make the playoffs.

Liberty Union (5-2) is sixth this week but the Lions will be an underdog against Teays Valley (5-2) this week and then close with Circleville (6-1) and Fairfield Union (2-5).

The Lions upset Logan Elm 22-0 last week.

Columbus Eastmoor (6-1) is seventh and should qualify for the postseason. However, the Warriors have a big game this week against Marion Franklin (6-1) and a win is needed to secure a spot because they finish with Independence (3-4) and Africentric (1-6).

Martins Ferry might need to win its final three games to get into the postseason. The Purple Rider have their big game this week against Indian Creek (6-1) but they should win. The close with Edison and Bellaire, both 2-5.

The Chesapeake Panthers (5-2) are sitting at No. 11 and will need a lot of help. The biggest thing the Panthers have to do is win out and that includes beating Coal Grove this week.

Speaking of Coal Grove, the Hornets (4-3) are 12th in this week’s Region 21 of Div. VI computer ratings.

Obviously, the Hornets must win out and then hope for several teams ahead of them to lose.

The Symmes Valley Vikings (4-3) enhanced their playoff chances with a win over Sciotoville East last week. Jumping to seventh in Region 25 of Div. VIII this week, the Vikings can lock up a playoff berth by beating Oak Hill this week.

Oak Hill (5-2) stands sixth in Region 21 of Div. VI and will be the favorite.

The Vikings play Portsmouth Notre Dame (1-6) next week and then end the season against Danville (4-3) on a Saturday at Athens High School.

Danville is 10th this week in Region 25.
