Local runners advance to regional cross country meet

RIO GRANDE — Evidently the outdoor 5K wasn’t enough, so area runners will keep running.

Boys teams from Ironton, Coal Grove, Rock Hill and Fairland and the Fairland Lady Dragons all advanced to the regional meet after finishing among the top four teams at Saturday’s district cross country meets at the University of Rio Grande.

The top four teams and top 16 individuals advance to the regional meet in Pickerington next Saturday.

Boys Division III District 2

Top Four Teams: 1. Eastern Brown 34, 2. Belpre 50, 3. Racine Southern 72; 4. Ironton 112.

Chad Garris was No. 14 with a 19:23.45 time while Luke Diamond was No. 16 with a 19:27.97 clocking.

Tim Maynard ran 20:03.21 to place No. 22. Joe Matkins was No. 36 at 21:14.71, Andy Bruce No. 45 with a 21:56.02 time, Connor Ramey had a 24:54.65 time and Cody Rawlins ran a 26:28.99.

Boys Division III District 1

Top Four Teams: 1. Leesburg Fairfield 20, 2. Manchester 71, 3. Wheelersburg 118, 4. Coal Grove 129.

Josh Pierce ran a 20:02.69 to place No. 24. He was followed by Ty Morrow at No. 26 with a 20:08.27 time and Wyatt Schultz had a 20:11.41 clocking to finish No. 28.

Michael Knuckles was at no. 30 with a 20:17.75 time, Tyler Waddle No. 36 at 20:5935, Austin Bridges No. 46 at 21:45.02 and Mark Sites ran a 24:37.63.

Girls Division III District 2

Top Four Teams: 1. Manchester 26; 2. Adena 39; 3. Whiteoak 59; 4. Chillicothe Huntington 97.

Ironton: Brooklyn Shope was No. 26 with a 25:21.71 time.

Coal Grove: Lauren Meyer was 11th with a 23:08.51 time and Chesie Curry was No. 16 at 24:09.00.

Boys Division II District 1

Top Four Teams: 1. Piketon 40, 2. Athens 91; 3. Fairfield Union 96; 4. Rock Hill 123.

Rock Hill: Seth Miller was fourth overall with a 16:51.70 clocking. Brendon McCormick was No. 9 with a 17:03.01 time.

No. 26 was Nathan Turvey at 18:24.78, Tim Secoy No. 42 at 19:13.37, Brandon Burditt ran a 19:25.36, Cody Lewis ran a 20:36.42 and Seth Baker 21:03.95.

South Point: Tyler Mathes was No. 11 with a 17:01.28 time and twin brother Tanner Mathes was No. 14 with 17:40.27 clocking. Zach Samples ran a 21:02.62, Cody Hutchinson 21:23.05 and Nick Burge 23:16:06.

Boys Division II District 2

Top Four Teams: 1. Sheridan 27, 2. Unioto 54, 3. Hillsboro 125, 4. Fairland 152.

Fairland: Conner Flynn was No. 20 with an 18:06.49 time. He was followed by Bryce Day at No. 22 with an 18:13.81 time. Brandon Bowen was No. 40 with an 18:56.78 clocking, Bryson Bias was 43rd at 19:01.40, Hunter Ashton No. 45 with a 19:06.07 time and Jake Wheeler ran a 20:23.95.

Girls Division II District 1

Top Four Teams: 1. Athens 24, 2. Zane Trace 92, 3. Fairland 101, 4. Sheridan 111.

Fairland: Shanan Ashton was fourth overall at 19:57.22. Jessica Price was No. 10 at 20:17.66, Hannah Wilson No. 28 with a 22:58.73 time, Kaylan Hager ran a 23:24.72 at No. 32 and Sarah Warnock No. 34 at 23:50.93.

Angel Wallace was No. 38 at 24:02.13 and No. 40 Emmy Fulks at 24:10.13.

Girls Division II District 2

Top Four Teams: 1. Unioto 49, 2. Fairfield Union 70, 3. Washington Court House 94, 4, Waverly 110.

South Point: Leah Lawson was No. 23 with a 22:45.16 time. Molly Starr was No. 52 at 25:08.39 followed by Adara Deeds at 26:50.87, Courtney Lewis 29:17.35, Maddie Cogan 29:17.39 and Mallory Wells 29:17.45.

Rock Hill: Sarah McFann was No. 32 with a 23:27.98 time. Mackenzie Clark ran a 30:27.25, Madison Henry 33:04.66, Kacie Blagg 33:13.30 and Hannah Blankenship 35:16.43.
