A preliminary hearing was set for Thursday.

Burns, arrested this past Thursday and charged with felonious assault, is accused of stabbing John Ackison, 27, multiple times following an argument early Thursday morning.

The two, along with other witnesses, were in a vehicle in the 900 block of North Fifth Street in Ironton, when the alleged fight broke out and Ackison was initially stabbed. According to police, the fight continued in the street where Ackison was allegedly stabbed again.

Burns allegedly fled the scene on foot and the victim was life-flighted to St. Mary’s Medical Center in critical condition.

Ackison had to undergo open-heart surgery because the knife severed an artery near his heart.

The man’s updated medical condition was not available as of press time, but according to police, he remains hospitalized.
