Will work to improve board

Tom Brokaw once said, “There is a place in America to take a stand: It is public education. It is the underpinning of our cultural and political system. It is the great common ground.

Public education, after all, is the engine that moves us as a society toward a common destiny. It is in public education that the American dream begins to take shape.”

I am a public school advocate and I am a candidate for the district 10 seat on the State Board of Education. As a member of the state board, I will not be a stranger to the people of southern Ohio. I have spent my life here and have more than 39 years of successful accomplishments in the field of public education.

I have a bachelor’s degree in education from Ohio University and master’s degree in educational administration from Xavier University.

I have served as a superintendent, principal pre-K through 12, teacher, coach, local school board member and as a state support team consultant for Ross-Pike ESC. My wife, Vickie, and I have 29 years of experience as parents and two wonderful children.

As an advocate of public education, I will work to ensure that the children in our communities have access to an education that is comparable to any in the state and nation.

I have worked alongside hundreds of dedicated teachers and administrators and I have seen firsthand the outstanding work they are performing as they improve their teaching methodologies so that our students, who are our No. 1 resource, can achieve their highest potential and realize their individual life goals.

To achieve results on a 19-member board, my abilities and experience will be an asset as I will work to form relationships that are built on trust, collaboration and two-way communication.

I will work to improve the state board of education’s working relationship with the legislature, the Ohio Department of Education and the local school boards so our approach to public education is not divisive, but is unified in enabling our schools to provide the highest quality education possible for our children.

I’m taking a stand for public education. Let’s make our children and our communities the winners.
