PROCTORVILLE — The South Point Pointers put the Fairland Dragons in a hole. Colton Brumfield dug them out.

South Point built a stunning 20-6 halftime lead over the favored Dragons, but Brumfield scored three touchdowns in the third quarter to spark a second half comeback as Fairland rallied for a 41-20 Ohio Valley Conference win Friday.

South Point took a 7-0 lead on a 3-yard run by Jacob Damron and Jordan Overstreet’s conversion kick.

The Dragons got within 7-6 on a 4-yard run by Nathan Campbell, but the Pointers scored twice in the second quarter on a 5-yard run by James Leonard and a 20-yard pass from Drew Adams to Dewayne Ford.

But the Dragons came out and quickly turned the momentum as they scored three times in five minutes.

Brumfield ran 17 yards for a touchdown, then went 31 yards for a score and it was 20-18.

The defense forced a punt and Brumfield returned the kick 57 yards for a touchdown. Chance Short threw to Campbell for the conversion and the Dragons led 26-20.

Short threw a pair of fourth quarter touchdown passes of 18 and 24 yards to Dylan Murphy in the fourth quarter as the Dragons sealed the outcome.

Short finished his career by hitting 16 of 32 passes for 245 yards and two scores. Murphy capped his stellar career with five receptions for 100 yards and the two touchdowns.

Brumfield finished with 62 yards on 16 carries as the Dragons ran for 116 yards to give them 361 total yards.

South Point was held to 88 net yards. Mason White ran nine times for 50 yards and Drew Adams was 5 of 20 for 52 yards and two interceptions.

Both teams end the season 2-8. Fairland is 2-2 in the league and South Point 0-4.
