James Lewis

May 9, 1953 — Nov. 2, 2014

 

James E. Lewis, 61, of Scottown, passed away Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, at the Huntington Hospice. The Beaver, Pennsylvania, native was born May 9, 1953, a son of the late Raymond W. and Ellen Mathney Lewis.

Mr. Lewis attended Rock Hill High School. He enjoyed hiking and root digging.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, David Lewis, Mikeal Lewis, James Lewis, Charles Lewis and Robert Lewis; and a sister, Sue Gullet.

He is survived by nine brothers and sisters, Roger Mathney, of Pedro, Debra (Ronnie) Cade, of Pedro, Donny (Penny) Lewis, of Toledo, John Lewis, of Oak Hill, Katie (Jerry) Owens, of Waterloo, Donna Bruce, of Scottown, Carl Lewis, of Coal Grove, Kathey (David) Miller, of Pedro, Roy Lewis, of Decatur, Mary (Oscar) Gannon, of Franklin Furnace, June Cade, of Ironton, and Billy Lewis, of Kentucky; and two stepchildren, Charles Harmon and April Harmon.

Philip Belville

May 1, 1943 — Nov. 2, 2014

 

Philip Major Belville, 71, of Waterloo, passed away Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington. The Lawrence County native was born May 1, 1943, a son of Carter Belville and the late Darlene Callicoat Belville. He is survived by his wife, Ardella Miller Belville.

Mr. Belville was a graduate of the Mason-Waterloo High School. He was the owner of the Belville Construction Company, a member of the Ohio Operating Engineers and the Masonic Lodge in Waterloo. He loved to hunt, fish and go riding in his Jeep. He also loved having family get-togethers. He was of the Christian faith.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Major and Goldie Belville and Robert and Gussie Callicoat

In addition to his father and wife, he is survived by two sons, Gregory (Patricia) Belville, of Waterloo, and Shannon (Brigette) Belville, of Ironton; a sister, Barbara (Ronald) Nicholas, of Gallipolis; three grandchildren, Shelby Lynn Belville, Shawn Carter Belville, both of Waterloo, and Brea Nicole Belville, of Ironton; two nephews, Keith (Lisa) Nicholas and Kevin (Jamie) Nicholas; and numerous additional nieces and nephews.

Gary Douglas

June 15, 1938 — Nov. 2, 2014

 

Gary Rolph Douglas, 76, of South Point, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, after a 19-year battle with cancer. He was born June, 15, 1938, in Athens to the late Arley and Betty Douglas. He was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Douglas; and two sisters, Anita Ferguson and Sue Evans.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ann Winters Douglas; one son, David Douglas and his wife, Susie, of Killeen, Texas; one daughter, Susan Douglas Gover, of Raleigh, North Carolina; and two grandchildren, Dusti Lynann Douglas and Garet Andrew Douglas, of Killeen.

Gary was an active member of the Ice Creek Missionary Baptist Church where he served as deacon, clerk and Sunday school teacher. He graduated from South Point High School in 1955 and served four years in the United States Air Force before graduating from Marshall University with a masters in education. He served as teacher and administrator in the South Point school district for more than 30 years.

Friends may visit from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home in Ironton. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with pastor Todd Warner officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Gary will be laid to rest in the Central Texas State Veteran’s Cemetery in Killeen.

 

 

Leonard Yates

Leonard Windell Yates, 78, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2014, at home. He is survived by his wife, Betty E. Clark-Yates. Funeral services will be under the direction of Carman Funeral Home and will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Freedom Worship Church of God in Greenup. John Ryan

John Allan Ryan, 73, of South Point, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, at home. He is survived by his wife, Linda Ryan. There will be no services. Arrangements are by Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville.

 

 

Robert Howell

Jan. 24, 1936 — Nov. 4, 2014

 

Robert L. Howell, 78, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Kentucky, with his family at his side.

He was born Jan. 24, 1936, in Blackfork, a son of the late Marie Brady Howell and the late William Howell. Bob was a United States Army veteran, a 1953 graduate of Blackfork High School, a former foreman for the Marion Power Shovel Company and attended the Ironton City Mission.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Gearleen Aldridge; a son, Patrick Howell; four brothers, Denny, Bill and two infants.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, whom he married on Nov. 5, 1994, Rita Howell, at home; two sons, Robert Thomas Howell, of Daytona Beach, Florida, Michael Howell, of Marion; two daughters, Susan Moore and Robin Coykendall, both of Marion; two brothers, Ronnie (Jenny) Howell and John Howell; and a sister, Sharon (Allan) Hughes, all of Oak Hill; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Brown Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Cremeans and the Rev. Tim Aldridge officiating. Bob will be laid to rest in the Lawrence Furnace Cemetery.

Kenneth Miller

June 19, 1939 — Nov. 2, 2014

 

Kenneth Lee Miller, 75, of South Point, joined his wife with the Lord in Heaven on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014. He was born June 19, 1939, in Winifrede, West Virginia, son of the late Wilburn Miller and Virginia Jarvis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Carolyn Miller; and one son, Kenny Miller.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He is survived by five children, Tammy (David) Saunders, Belinda (Tim) Rice, Steven Miller, Carrie Murphy, and Rena (Tony) Hatfield; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; several brothers and sisters; and special friends, the Adkins family.

Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory by Pastor Jerry Galloway. Entombment will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Barboursville, West Virginia. Leeanna Wright

Aug. 28, 1976 — Nov. 1, 2014

 

Leeanna Rose Stafford Wright, 38, of Ashland, loving mother, wife, sister and daughter, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, at Ohio State University Medical Center. Leeanna was born Aug. 28, 1976, in Boyd County, Kentucky, a daughter of Stephen and Sheila Cleavenger Stafford, of Ashland.

Leeanna is the loving mother of three precious children, Savannah Wright, Sarah Wright and Christian Wright, all of Ironton. She is also survived by two loving sisters, April, and her husband, Kevin Cade, of Boyd County, and Stephanie and her husband, Shaun Greene, of Ashland; and her maternal grandmother, Betty Rose Cleavenger, of Ashland. She will also be missed by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday by pastors Randy Patrick and Sheldon Wheeler at Preston Family Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Coalton Cemetery. Lewis Griffin, 88, of Chesapeake, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014, at his residence. Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home in Chesapeake is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

Joseph Miniard, 73, of Catlettsburg, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Gloria D. Miniard. Marty Michael Massie, 57, of Huntington, formerly of Arabia, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2014, at his home. Arrangements are pending at Brown Funeral Chapel in Ironton.
