Ironton computer company Custom-BuiltPCs.com has released a cross-platform multitouch desktop environment with 30 built-in applications.

A demonstration of the software took place at 1 p.m. Thursday at the business located at 801 Pleasant St.

Called CBPCDESK, the program allows users of any type of computer or tablet to run a full multitouch desktop environment on Microsoft Windows 7, 8 and 10, Apple OSX, Linux and Android operating systems.

“The CBPCDESK software comes with 30 preinstalled applications to take full advantage of the new desktop,” Matt Massie, of Custom-BuiltPCs.com, said. “Most operating systems have been point-and-click-based interfaces for around 30 years. Newer computer screen technologies allow for as many as 10 inputs to be read simultaneously or multitouch to be used, however, little has been done with this technology until now.”

CBPCDESK allows the use of on-screen gestures, keyboard, mouse, touch-screen or voice recognition to operate the computer or tablet. The desktop environment also simplifies software development for Microsoft, Apple and Linux by using a common programming language throughout, which reduces development costs by as much as 60 percent.

“The program’s smart page management allows simultaneous access to all programs running on the desktop, which allows users the ability to work faster and smarter,” Massie said. “There are eight easily accessible full high-definition desktops to open applications and use as workspace.”

Developing the program, Massie said, was a large-scale project requiring approximately 13 months of software development to complete, more than 30,000 lines of code and 390 megabytes of supporting files. Massie is the lead project developer; graphics designer is Don Smith, documentation and beta testing done by James Roach and sound sampling and sounds by Terry Rowe, all of whom are employees Custom-BuiltPCs.com.

“This will have a huge impact on the future of how our users interact with our computers,” Massie said.

CBPCDESK will be installed on all touch-screen computers sold exclusively by Custom-BuiltPCs.com this holiday season.
