Man sentenced in animal cruelty case

An Ironton man who tossed a puppy from his second-story balcony recently admitted to the crime.

Jerry D. Riedel Jr., 30, of 1418 1/2 S. Seventh St., pleaded guilty to a single count of animal cruelty, a second-degree misdemeanor, on Oct. 30.

Judge O. Clark Collins sentenced the man to 90 days in the county jail, 60 days suspended, a $300 fine, court costs and one year of probation.

Riedel was charged this past August after Ironton Police responded to a call that the man threw a puppy over the balcony of his apartment. The animal did not survive.
