HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — A man whose brother was among the victims of the 1970 Marshall University plane crash that killed 75 people will be the featured speaker at this year’s annual memorial service.
Tom Shoebridge will speak Friday at the Marshall Memorial Student Center plaza in Huntington.
His brother, Ted Shoebridge, was Marshall’s starting quarterback in 1970. He and 35 other football players were among those killed in the worst sports disaster in U.S. history on Nov. 14, 1970, in Huntington. The team plane was returning from a game at East Carolina.
Tom Shoebridge has donated his brother’s green No. 14 jersey to a Huntington restaurant. The white jersey worn against East Carolina will be displayed in the university’s athletic hall of fame.
