Nine witnesses testified before grand jury
A Lawrence County grand jury has returned a no bill in the case of an Ironton man accused of felonious assault.
Charles R. Burns, 35, was arrested in October for allegedly stabbing 27-year-old John Ackison.
According to a release from Lawrence County Prosecuting Attorney Brigham Anderson, “after hearing extensive testimony from nine witnesses, the grand jury returned a no bill as to those allegations.”
The release stated the grand jury spent considerable time reviewing the evidence in the case, and after careful consideration and deliberation, declines to issue an indictment.
“As important as it is to issue indictments based on objective evidence, it is equally as important to ensure that indictments are not issued with evidence that does not warrant an indictment,” Anderson said in the release.
