Fred Jones

Nov. 3, 1927 — Nov. 26, 2014

 

Fred D. Jones, 87, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. The Lawrence County native was born Nov. 3, 1927, the son of the late Owen and Hazel Sockel Jones. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Reed Jones.

Mr. Jones was a graduate of Ironton High School and a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a former employee of Jack Wolfe Chevrolet, Bob Clyse Oldsmobile and the Ironton Coke Plant. He also worked in security at the Lawrence County General Hospital, where he retired from. He attended Central Christian Church in Ironton and was a member of the Elks Lodge, a Mason and the United Commercial Travelers.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Tom Jones.

He is survived by three sons, Fred A. Jones, John M. Jones, both of Ironton, and Dan (Coni) Jones, of Manassas, Virginia; two daughters, Kathy (Jerry) Zuercher, of Pueblo, Colorado, and Mary Lynn Jones, of Ironton; 12 grandchildren, Donnie Jones, Andrea Jones, T.C. (Amy) Jones, Megan Holland, Emily Jones, Jonathon Jones, Christopher Jones, Danny Jones, Laura (Dave) Rupert, Jerry Zuercher, Stephan Zuercher and David Zuercher; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery with military graveside rites by the VFW Post 8850 and visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Sue Ison

Sept. 29, 1939 ­— Nov. 21, 2014

 

Sue Whitt Ison, 75, of Wheelersburg, went to see her Savior while resting in her living husband, Lee Ison’s arms on Friday, Nov. 21, 2014, in Sebastian, Florida. She was born on Sept. 29, 1939, in Carter County, Kentucky, to the late Glenn and Irene Whitt. She was a homemaker and a retired teacher in the South Point school system.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Horn; and a sister, Joyce Ann Pauley.

She is survived by her husband, Lee Ison; two sons, Greg (Jenny) Roberts, of Atlanta, Georgia, and David Roberts, of South Point; a brother, Jack (Martha) Whitt, of Chesapeake; sisters, Kay Johnson and Donna Lester, both of South Point; eight grandchildren, Stephanie (Shane) DeGraffinreed and Nancy Sue Collins, both of Palm Bay, Florida, Brad Cremeans, of Savannah, Tennessee, Chloe Blayne Roberts, of Sparta, Kentucky, and Morgan Roberts, Justin Roberts and Chad Alan Roberts, all of Atlanta; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Berean Baptist Church. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery. Friends may call at the church one hour before the service.

 

 

Jon Burcham

Jon Bil Burcham, 84, of Haverhill, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2014, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. He was the husband of Maxine Burcham. Arrangements are pending at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home.

Nancy S. Adkins, 59, of Lavalette, West Virginia, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. She was the wife of Randall Adkins. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home.

 

Gene Walker

Sept. 15, 1936 — Nov. 25, 2014

 

Garvin Eugene “Gene” Walker, 78, of Winchester, Kentucky, formerly of South Point, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, at Hospice Care Center in Lexington, Kentucky.

He was born Sept. 15, 1936, in Pikeville, Kentucky, a son of the late Trevert D. Walker and Eunice Angeline Spears Walker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Arvid P. Walker.

Gene was a retired employee of Dayton Malleable, a member of Ice Creek Missionary Baptist Church and a 1955 graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School. He is survived by four daughters, Lynn Pearson and Teresa (Jeff) Potts, both of Winchester, Elizabeth McCord, of Beckley, West Virginia, and Sarah (Howard) Carter, of Lexington; two sons, Jerry (Tammy) Walker, of Coal Grove, and Dennis “Butch” Walker, of Tennessee; 13 grandchildren, Hollie, Kara, Cassidy, Amanda, Kaylee, Shelbie, Doris, Chloe, Izabella, Howard, Brian, Chris and Walker; three great grandchildren, Owen, Gretchen and Piper; a nephew; and two nieces.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home in South Point with Kevin Willis officiating. Burial will follow at Ice Creek Cemeteryn in Deering. John Allen

Oct 16, 1942 — Nov. 23, 2014

 

John Burton (Doc) Allen, 72, of Ironton, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center from complications of a stroke.

He was born in Detroit, Michigan, on Oct. 16, 1942, the son of the late Charles and Mildred Dunkum Allen. He was a veteran and self-employed motorcycle mechanic. He was the husband of Rebecca Allen and father of three children, Lea Andrea (Christopher) Travis, of High Point, North Carolina, Charles Acy (Mary) Allen, of Ironton, and Shawn (Stephanie) Allen, of Morgantown, West Virginia; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded by one sister, Charlie Mae Allen.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. today at O’Keefe Baker Funeral Home. Funeral will be noon Saturday with Christopher Travis officiating at the funeral home.
