It was a good start to the game that meant a good start to the season.

The St. Joseph Female Flyers jumped out to a 20-point halftime lead and went on to be the Racine Southern Lady Tornadoes 57-46 Saturday in the season opener for both teams.

“We had a really good start. We were running well and taking high percentage shots,” said Female Flyers head coach Nick Miller.

“It’s a nice win. Southern is a pretty good team. They have some size, some quickness and they play really hard.”

The Female Flyers had three players in double figures led by Hannah Miller with 21 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, four blocked shots and three steals.

Amber Neal had 11 points and six rebounds, Lynsey Booker finished with 10 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals, and Rachel Miller added nine points.

“We had good balance. Rachel Martin did a nice job of running the floor and finishing when she had opportunities,” said coach Miller.

Faith Teaford scored 19 points for Southern.

St. Joseph took a 21-10 first quarter lead and led 40-21 at the half. The lead was 51-29 at the end of the third quarter.

“We tried to run some clock and got out of rhythm and they got hot and hit some shots,” said coach Miller.
