Emerson Butler
June 28, 1943 — Nov. 27, 2014
Emerson “Wayne” Butler Sr., 71, of Greensboro, North Carolina, passed away Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014.
Born in Ironton on June 28, 1943, he was the son of the late Juanita Martin Butler Smith and Martin Butler.
Mr. Butler was a 1962 graduate of Rock Hill High School in Pedro. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam. He worked as a construction superintendent until he retired in 2006.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet “Gayle” McKnight Butler; two infant sons; sisters, Phyllis McFann and Marta Howard; and brother, Fred Butler.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Wayne Butler Jr. (Shaun), and their daughter, Kelsey, of Greensboro; Richard Butler, of Greensboro; daughter, Carol Kelly (Tim) and family, of Coal Grove; brother, Paul Butler, of Kitts Hill; sisters, Jackie Massey, of Ironton, and Evelyn Hall, of Marion; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Puckett Cemetery. The family will receive friends afterward at Freedom Baptist Church on Oak Ridge Road.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the VA Hospice House, 1601 Brenner Ave, Salisbury, NC 28144.

Carl Delawder
May 17, 1945 — Nov. 29, 2104
Carl Leslie Delawder, 69, of Kitts Hill, passed away Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, at his residence. The Ironton native was born May 17, 1945, to the late Elva Lee and Winona Verna Brownstead Delawder. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Nellie Elizabeth McCormack Delawder.
Mr. Delawder was a graduate of Ironton High School and a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in Vietnam. He was a former maintenance mechanic for the Eaton Corporation, retiring in 2007 after 37 years of service. He was also a former Ironton police officer, a marshal in Prospect and a police officer in Cardington. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, loved collecting and was an avid Steelers fan. He loved his grandkids and the Ironton Fighting Tigers. Carl “Buzz” Delawder was a man with a big heart.
In addition to his parents, he will join his late son, Carl Jr., in heaven; and his siblings, Marvin Houston, John Houston, Anne Knipp, Verna Cooke, Joyce Lawless, Marsha Bare and Robert Delawder.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Brian Delawder and Roger Delawder; a daughter, Winona Verna Delawder; two sisters, June Cooke and Patsy Battista; his grandchildren, Derek, Bryson, Erica, Carl III, Joel, Brian, Jessica, Tiffany, Jonathon and Kaylee; and great-grandchildren, Landon and Carson French, Jaycee, Annalea and Arryabella Gruber.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Sammy Cooke officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christmas for Vets Nursing Home. Grace Schwede
Jan. 8, 1956 — Nov. 18, 2014
Grace Alysa Schwede passed away at King’s Daughters Medical Center on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014. She was born Jan. 8, 1956, and married to Dave Schwede for 12 years. She had four children, Jesse Meyers, Josh Meyers, Jennifer Soto and Paul Schwede. She has been cremated and there will be a showing in Wadsworth on Dec. 6.
David Tackett
David Tackett, 66, of Coal Grove, husband of Dora Ann Black Tackett, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014. at his residence. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home in South Point. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Slack and Wallace Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Sharyn “Sharry” Waldo Justice, 68, of Ironton, wife of Greg Justice, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, at Hospice of Huntington. Service will be noon Friday at Tracy Brammer Monroe-Funeral Home in Ironton. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral service. Cecil Whitley
Cecil R. Whitley, 90, of South Point, husband of Delores “Dutch” Whitley, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. Slack and Wallace Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements, which are incomplete.
