HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Two Marshall football starters — tight end Eric Frohnapfel and left tackle Trevor Mendelson — were named Thursday to the 2014 Conference USA All-Academic Team.
Frohnapfel and Mendelson are graduate students playing their senior seasons of athletic eligibility.
Frohnapfel, of Stafford, Va., owns a 4.0 grade point average in his MBA. Mendelson, of Dublin, Ohio, has a 3.8 GPA in his MBA. Both previously gained their undergraduate degrees in finance — Mendelson in December 2013 and Frohnapfel in May 2014.
Frohnapfel is No. 2 among the Herd in pass receptions with 33, for 389 yards and five touchdowns. Mendelson has emerged as the starting left tackle on a veteran Marshall line that has paved the way for the No. 2-ranked total offense in major-college football (574.6 yards per game).
Rice led the C-USA All-Academic selections with three, while Marshall, Old Dominion and Southern Miss had two apiece.
Frohnapfel and Mendelson are two of the three graduate students on the honor squad. Ten of the 13 C-USA football schools had players on the team.
