SP girls slip by Trojans for 1st win

PORTSMOUTH — It took two Lady Pointers to get South Point win number one.

Brooklyn Badgett scored 22 points and Abbey Winkler 17 as the Lady Pointers nipped the Portsmouth Lady Trojans 47-45 on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Peighton Williams scored 20 points and Semajah Parker 9 points to lead Portsmouth (0-5, 0-3).

Winkler had 6 points and Olivia Abner added 4 points as South Point (1-2, 1-2) took a 14-10 first quarter lead.

Badgett had 8 points in the second quarter to help offset 6 points by Williams as the Lady Pointers held a slim 24-23 halftime lead.

Williams scored 6 more points in the third quarter as Portsmouth tied the game at 35.

Badgett — who scored 6 points in the quarter — and Haley Rawlins made two free throws each as South Point held on for the win.

South Point hosts Fairland at 7 p.m. Thursday in a varsity-only OVC game.
