John Houck

Surrounded by family, John Thomas Houck, 73, of Proctorville, passed away after a brief illness at Holzer Medical Center on Dec. 12, 2014. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, William Robert Houck (1989) and Ruby Dove Evans Houck (1998); and granddaughter, Emily Kathryen (2001).

Tom is survived by his wife, Judy Kathyren (Holley); and four children, Julie Houck (Mitch), of Odenton, Maryland; Jeffrey William, of Campbell, California; John Robert (Jennifer), of Nashville, Tennessee; and Joseph Aaron (Sara), of Knoxville, Tennessee. In addition, Tom is survived by nine grandchildren, John and Katie; Jacob, Jordan, Joshua and Jessica; Jack; and Lane and Ledger. In addition, Tom is survived by two brothers, William Robert Houck (Julie) of Marion, and James Howard Houck, of Carroll, Ohio; brothers-in-law, Joseph, Hersel (deceased), Marvin and David; sister-in law, Janice; and numerous nieces and nephews. Tom is also survived by his daily companions, Lettie and Bailey who made his life a little brighter.

Tom and his wife, Judy, owned and operated their own company, JH Systems, Inc., providing computer services. Tom was an avid enthusiast of the Civil War era having traveled with his wife to Gettysburg and surrounding areas on various occasions. Tom also possessed expertise in the operation of steamboats, which navigated the Ohio River. In addition, Tom focused on family ancestry tracing his Gallia County heritage to the Revolutionary War era. Tom enjoyed working with wood, which he acquired this trait from his father and mother who formerly owned the Wood Novelty Shop in Gallipolis.

Calling hours for Tom Houck will be at the Cremeens Funeral Home; 75 Grape St., Gallipolis, Ohio, from 4-6 p.m. today. Funeral services will immediately follow with Chaplain Fred Williams officiating. Private burial will be at Mound Hill Cemetery where Tom will be buried next to his parents. Pallbearers for Tom Houck will be his three sons, Jeff, John and Joseph; his brother, James Howard; and his two brothers-in-laws, Joseph and Marvin Holley. Gene Brown

We are mourning the recent loss of our dear loved one, Eugene Brown (known to most people as Gene), who passed away on Dec. 3, 2014. Gene’s age was 74 years old at the time of his demise. He last resided in Naples, Florida.

Gene was born in Ironton, Ohio. He lived several years in Blairsville, Georgia, and the Blue Ridge Mountains area. Gene also lived many years in Hamilton, Ohio.

Gene Brown’s family consists of his wife, Joyce C. Brown; his two children, Shelly Brown McInnis and Scott Dwight Skipper, as well as Gene’s son-in-law, Bob McInnis; his three grandchildren, RJ McInnis, Austin McInnis and Thomas Skipper; Gene’s sister, Rita Brennan Wine; and Gene’s brother, Johnny M. Brown.

Gene Brown retired from the Collier County Sheriff’s Department. Gene also served several years in the Butler County Sheriff’s Department. He previously served in the U.S. Air Force.

Clinton Justice

Clinton Pete Justice, 84, of Chesapeake, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014, at Sunset Nursing Home, Ironton. He was survived by his wife Beulah White Justice.

Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home with an Eastern Star service at 7:30 p.m.

Jack Osborne

Jack Martin Osborne; 62, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky, with his family at his side.

He was born Jan. 14, 1952, a son of the late Homer Osborne and the late Marie Riley Henry. Jack was a former employee of the Ironton Coke Plant and the Ashland Oil Co. Jack was an amazing father, loyal friend and loving husband. He also loved racing and riding motorcycles.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Jaxson and Demitrius Frazer.

Jack is survived by his wife Cathy Jones Osborne at home;, a son, Jack Martin Osborne II and his wife Carly; a daughter, Leanne Johnson and her fiancé, JD Hicks, two grandchildren, Dreyden Osborne and Zaylin Willis and a host of family and friends.

Services will be private and burial in the Calvary Cemetery in Ironton. Friends may share memories and condolences on the face book page for the Brown Funeral Chapel.

The family has entrusted his care to Brown Funeral Chapel at Ironton.

 

 

 

David Bailey

David Bailey Sr., 56, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014, at his residence. The Ironton, native was born Jan. 24, 1958, a son of Edna Mae Gannon Bailey, of Franklin Furnace, and the late Joseph Bailey. He is also survived by his wife of 32 years, Linda Jean Harmon Bailey.

David attended Rock Hill Schools and was a former store clerk/cashier for Townsend’s Carry Out. He was a former mechanic and loved working on old cars and making model cars. He also loved riding horses, spending time with his family, grandchildren and going to the Smokey Mountains. He was proud of his Indian heritage and was a member of the Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Edith Terry Harmon and the Rev. Kelly Harmon Jr.; two brothers, Joseph Bailey and Sonny Bailey; a sister, Debbie Collins; a granddaughter, Ragen Storme Bailey; a nephew, Shawn Collins; and a niece, Autumn Collins.

In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by two daughters, Edith M. Bailey and Robert Trader of, Coal Grove and Linda G. Bailey and Michael McPeek, of Ashland; a son, David Bailey Jr., of Ashland; two brothers, Willard Bailey, of Franklin Furnace, and James “Happy” Bailey, of Hanging Rock; a sister, Rebecca Collins, of Caledonia; seven grandchildren, Amanda and Amber Trader, Destiny, Daykota, Delsyn, Mikeylah, and Xyler Bailey; a great granddaughter, Aaliyah Harmon; and several nieces and nephews

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Gateway Baptist Church with pastor Scott Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in Hanging Rock Cemetery and visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the church. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

 

 

Bobby Bailey

Bobby Bailey, 76, of Pine Grove, died on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014 at his residence. Arrangements are pending at Phillips Funeral Home.
