The Rock Hill Redmen became control freaks.

The Redmen controlled the tempo, the game and the outcome as they beat the St. Joseph Flyers 53-43 on Friday.

“We let Rock Hill control the tempo and then we didn’t shoot the ball well the entire game. We played hard, we just didn’t play our game,” said Flyers’ coach Jeremy Williams.

Austin Collins had 24 points including 14 of 17 from the foul line to lead the Redmen (1-1).

Austin Barcus had 11 points and 6 rebounds and Alex Nance also had 6 rebounds for Rock Hill.

Wulf Goheen had 14 points and 4 steals while Troy Scott had 11 points, 4 steals and 2 blocked shots to lead the Flyers (1-2). Zac McGraw grabbed 9 rebounds and Chris Lewis 8 for the Flyers.

The biggest difference came from the field as Rock Hill made 17 of 35 shots for 49 percent and St. Joseph was just 14 of 57 for 25 percent. The Flyers failed to connect on any of 15 3-point attempts.

Goheen had half of St. Joseph’s points in the first quarter to offset 5 points by Barcus as the Flyers took an 8-7 lead.

But Collins had 8 points in the second quarter as Rock Hill outscored the Flyers 18-4 to lead 25-12 at the half.

Scott scored all of St. Joseph’s points in the quarter.

“Both of us were missing shots the first quarter and then the second quarter they just outplayed us,” said Williams.

Collins scored 8 more points in the third quarter as the lead went to 42-27.

Goheen and Trey Young combined for 10 points in the fourth quarter as the Flyers cut the deficit to six points, but Collins was 6 of 9 at the foul line to seal the win.

Collins went 12 of 15 at the line in the second half as he scored 14 of his points.

Rock Hill will host Chesapeake on Tuesday. The St. Joseph boys and girls will play Friday at Fairview, Ky., starting at 6 p.m.
