COAL GROVE — The Coal Grove Lady Hornets were three-illed with Leah Crum’s performance.

Crum drained five 3-pointers and scored 18 points to heald Coal Grove beat the Lincoln County Lady Wildcats 53-43 on Saturday in the annual River Battle.

“Crum stepped up and knocked down some shots that she had been missing in previous games,” said Lady Hornets’ coach Rick Roach.

“We dealt with their pressure and knocked down some shots.”

Jacy Jones scored 14 points including 12 of 16 at the foul line for the Lady Hornets (3-2) who were 24 of 41 from the line for the game. Kaylee Beals had 8 rebounds.

Lincoln County (0-3) was paced by Lindsey Prichard and Rachel Pennington with 11 points each.

Leslie Mulkey scored 7 of her 9 points in the first quarter as Coal Grove took a 16-13 lead.

“They were on Jones like bees on honey. Mulkey scored in the first to help. Beals came in and did a great job rebounding. I felt like my bench came in and gave us what we needed. It was a good team win,” said Roach.

Jones and Crum combined for 11 points in the second quarter as Coal Grove pulled away to a 28-18 lead.

Crum — who was named the game’s MVP — made a pair of 3-pointers in the third quarter to offset 6 points by Pennington as Coal Grove extended the lead to 41-28.

Prichard scored 6 points in the fourth quarter but the Lady Hornets converted 7 of 15 at the line.

Coal Grove hosts Rock Hill on Monday.
