Youth should be praised

Each year, especially during the holiday season, organizations throughout the region have various fundraisers along with food, clothing and toy drives among others to help supply the respective entities, with the tools to serve others who are in need.

This is true as well for several students throughout the region who again had a Peanut Butter Drive to aid the Facing Hunger Food Bank in Huntington.

We applaud all of the schools for their efforts that participated this year, but special mention should be given to the students of Rock Hill schools and the district’s National Honor Society that won the contest for the third year in a row.

The school district collected nearly 500 jars of peanut butter this year.

Although the attention can be placed on winning the contest, a keen understanding that the contest is more about helping others is resounding.

In a world that can be cynical or overlook those in need, seeing examples like this, especially from our youth, is reassuring.

It is an indication that youth throughout the region are aware of the importance of helping others.

While the focus is on the youth in this case, all those individuals, organizations and businesses should be commended for their efforts to help others.
