Virgil Loop

Oct. 14, 1958-Dec. 20, 2014

Virgil DeWayne Loop, 56, of Franklin Furnace finally lost his battle with cancer after eight months on Dec. 20, 2014, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.  He was born Oct. 14, 1958, in Portsmouth to the late Virgil Loop and Flo Ella Hurley Loop of South Webster.  He was a self-employed carpenter and a member of Mt. Hope Freewill Baptist Church.  DeWayne was a lifelong sponsor and coach of all South Webster athletic programs.

He is survived by his wife, Robbin Lynn Scarberry Loop whom he married Dec. 22, 1984, in Powellsville.  Also surviving are his mother, Flo Ella Loop, two sons, Wesley DeWayne Loop and Austin Lee Loop, three sisters, Delores (Tim) Henry, Barbara Brown and Rhonda Loop, brother and sister in law, Rick and Trish Scarberry and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are under the direction of Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home where friends may call from 5-8 p.m.Friday.  Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery on Saturday at 10 a.m.

 

 

William Barber

Feb. 20, 1949-Dec. 21, 2014

William W. Barber, 65, of Willow Wood, passed away Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014, at his residence. The Boyd County, Kentucky, native was born Feb. 20, 1949, a son of the late William W. Sr. and Jean Smith Barber. He is survived by his wife, Tanna Simpson Barber.

Mr. Barber attended Fairview High School, was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed going fishing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Madeline Carol Wheeler;

a brother, Roger Barber; and an infant daughter, Melissa Renee Barber.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Lisa Keelin of Brooksville, Florida and Cynthia Barber of Buffalo Creek, West Virginia; four brothers, Charles “Bud” Barber of Westwood, Kentucky, Harold Barber of Catlettsburg, Kentucky, Jim (Rosie) Barber of Chesapeake and Benny Barber of Westwood; a sister, Gracie “Kathy” (Robert) Willis of Ashland; nine grandchildren;  14 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Ross Cemetery and visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Billy Smith

Billy J. Smith, 72, of South Point, formerly of Logan, West Virginia, husband of Delores Lopes Smith, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia.  Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Ann Catholic Church, Chesapeake. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Highland Memory Gardens, Godby, West Virginia. Arrangements are under the direction of  Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point.
