Don’t lose spirit of season

All around the world, presents were unwrapped, families sat down together for dinner and soon the trees will be taken down. All the decorations will be put up for another year, but that does not mean that we should forget the giving spirit that makes this season special.

Every year, thousands of residents of Lawrence County and the region work together to reach those in need within our community. Those who need food are fed while children who need toys are able to wake up Christmas morning with something under the tree. Those who faced adversity were able to see their worries go away, albeit if just for a short time.

This year has been no different.

While it can be difficult to continue this spirit of serving throughout the year, if we can continue even a small part of the compassion shown, the county and region will benefit long after the Christmas season has gone.

The season, based on the love and kindness of Jesus Christ brings out the best in most although human nature can allow that to flee throughout the year.

Love for our families, friends, neighbors and community, however, is something that can be carried throughout the seasons.
