SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Jerian Grant scored 24 points to lead No. 14 Notre Dame to a 83-76 comeback win in double overtime over Georgia Tech.

Pat Connaughton knocked down a 3-pointer just over a minute into the second overtime and added a right-handed scoop 40 seconds later for the Irish. Battling foul trouble most of the game, Zach Auguste’s low post bucket with two minutes left put the Irish up by seven.

After not scoring in the first half, Steve Vasturia added 17 points for Notre Dame (14-1, 2-0 ACC), which won its 10th straight. The Irish also matched their previous best start under coach Mike Brey.

Marcus Georges-Hunt scored 20 points to lead the Yellow Jackets (9-4, 0-1) in their ACC opener. Charles Mitchell added 14 points and 12 rebounds.

NO. 2 DUKE 85, BOSTON COLLEGE 62

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Freshman Jahlil Okafor scored a career-high 28 points for Duke.

Quinn Cook added 15 points to help the Blue Devils (13-0, 1-0) win their Atlantic Coast Conference opener.

They shot 47 percent and used runs of 17-2 and 14-0 to pull away for their 41st straight win at Cameron Indoor Stadium — the longest active streak in the nation.

Olivier Hanlan finished with 22 points for the Eagles (7-5, 0-1), who have lost two of three and were playing their first road game. They shot 40 percent but never got closer than 10 in the second half.

Okafor’s previous scoring high didn’t even last a week: Five nights earlier against Toledo, he scored 27. He has finished with at least 20 points in all three games of Duke’s homestand and in six of eight.

NO. 12 MARYLAND 70, MINNESOTA 58

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Melo Trimble scored 20 points, and Maryland used a strong defensive performance to beat Minnesota in the Terrapins’ inaugural Big Ten home game.

Dez Wells added 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists, and sophomore Damonte Dodd had a career-high 12 rebounds for the Terrapins (14-1, 2-0), who have won seven straight. Maryland hasn’t been 14-1 since 1997.

Trimble, a freshman point guard, missed 10 of 15 shots from the floor but went 9 for 13 at the foul line with five rebounds.

Although the Terrapins never trailed after the opening three minutes, Minnesota (11-4, 0-2) kept it close deep into the second half. But the Golden Gophers shot only 33.8 percent in their lowest-scoring outing of the season and were outrebounded 44-35.

NO. 17 WEST VIRGINIA 78, TCU 67

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Gary Browne sparked West Virginia with 16 points while leading scorer Juwan Staten watched from the bench with an illness as the Mountaineers opened Big 12 Conference-play with a win over TCU.

West Virginia’s all-around aggressiveness helped it shake off a pesky and previously-unbeaten Horned Frogs team. The Mountaineers had seven and-one tries in the game, including six in the second half, and they converted five of them. Defensively, they also pressed the Frogs into 18 turnovers in the game and finished with 12 steals.

Devin Williams scored 14 for West Virginia (13-1, 1-0 Big 12) and Jaysean Paige added 10 points as the Mountaineers won their sixth-straight game.

TCU’s longest winning streak since the 1997-98 season ended at 13 games. Kyan Anderson led the Frogs with 19 points, Trey Ziegler scored 17 and Brandon Parrish added 11 for TCU (13-1, 0-1).

NO. 25 GEORGETOWN 76, CREIGHTON 61

WASHINGTON (AP) — Freshmen L.J. Peak, Tre Campbell and Paul White combined for 37 points for No. 25 Georgetown.

With a pair of starting seniors, Joshua Smith and Jabril Trawick, on the sideline because of foul trouble, Georgetown (9-4, 1-1) relied heavily on its first-year players, who provided 25 of 29 points during one span.

Campbell’s 3-pointer early in the second half wrapped up a 15-2 spurt that put Georgetown ahead 39-31. And White’s 3 with 7 1/2 minutes to go gave the hosts a 61-46 edge.

Smith did wind up with 16 points, and Trawick with 12. But Big East preseason player of the year D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera was limited to five.

Devin Brooks and Zach Hanson led Creighton (9-6, 0-2) with 11 points each.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Freshman Khadeen Carrington hit a go-ahead layup with 1:38 to play in overtime and Seton Hall knocked off its second ranked foe this week, defeating No. 6 Villanova 66-61 on Saturday.

The Pirates ended the Wildcats’ school-record-tying 13-game winning streak to start the season.

The Pirates (12-2, 2-0 Big East) upset No. 15 St. John’s on Wednesday and came back to deny Villanova coach Jay Wright his 300th win with the Wildcats (13-1, 1-10).

Carrington finished with a career-high 17 points. Sterling Gibbs added 20 for the Pirates.

Daniel Ocheful had a career day for Villanova with 19 points and 24 rebounds, personal bests. Darrun Hilliard added 14 points before fouling out.

NO. 10 OKLAHOMA 73, NO. 22 BAYLOR 63

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — TaShawn Thomas scored 24 points to help Oklahoma beat Baylor.

Thomas, a senior who transferred from the University of Houston before the season, made 11 of 17 shots and grabbed eight rebounds.

Buddy Hield had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Isaiah Cousins added 19 points for the Sooners (10-3, 1-0 Big 12), who won their third straight in the conference opener for both teams.

Freshman Johnathan Motley scored a season-high 24 points and Taurean Prince added 17 for Baylor (11-2, 0-1), which had won six straight. The Bears shot 46 percent in the first half, but just 29 percent after the break.

Baylor, which had held opponents to 55 points per game, allowed its highest point total of the season. Oklahoma made 21 of 25 free throws, while Baylor was just 12 of 18.

BUTLER 73, NO. 15 ST. JOHN’S 69

NEW YORK (AP) — Kellen Dunham scored a season-high 28 points, including a pivotal 3-pointer with just more than 2 minutes left that helped Butler hold off St. John’s.

Alex Barlow added 15 points and Roosevelt Jones had 14 to help the Bulldogs (11-4, 1-1 Big East) split their tough road trip to begin conference play. Dunham, the team’s top scorer, was held to 10 points Wednesday in a loss at No. 6 Villanova.

D’Angelo Harrison matched his season high with 31 points for short-handed St. John’s (11-3, 0-2), which played its first game since second-leading scorer Rysheed Jordan left the team to deal with “personal and family matters” back home in Philadelphia.

After winning 11 of their first 12 games for the first time since 1985-86, it’s been a disappointing start to league play for the Red Storm, who had won seven straight before a 78-67 loss Wednesday at Seton Hall.

Felix was 3 of 6 from 3-point range.

Holmes became the 34th player in Texas history to score 1,000 points.

The Longhorns (12-2, 1-0 Big 12) outrebounded the Red Raiders 41-29 and had twice as many points off turnovers.

Foul trouble early in the second half hurt the Red Raiders’ ability to stop the Longhorns’ inside game.

Texas Tech didn’t start getting the ball inside until late and finished with 26 points in the paint.

Isaiah Manderson scored 12 points for the Red Raiders (10-4, 0-1).
