Be aware when ‘help’ is offered

During a time when we see continual cyber attacks and security breaches by some of the largest corporations in the country, it is always good to be cautious when making purchases in person, over the phone or online.
The same can be said for entities offering help, especially in the case of something like treatment for an addiction to drugs or alcohol.
In some cases, those seeking help for addictions are being targeted because gaining personal information from those individuals may be much easier to garner.
It is always important to gather information and know as much about the facility and organization as possible before providing personal information, especially over the telephone or online.
Although we commend those who provide an outlet for people addicted to drugs and alcohol, it is important to have the best interest of drug addicts and alcoholics at the forefront.
While there are certainly many groups and organizations available that perform a valuable service to the individual, their family and the community, residents must be aware for the ones who are looking out for self interests.
Ultimately, having treatment facility and those willing to help through helplines for those addicted can be a positive thing for our community.
It is essential, however, to remain cognizant and aware.
