Terry Collins

April 18, 1958 — Jan. 1, 2015

 

Terry Lee Collins, 56, passed away Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. The Floyd County, Kentucky, native was born April 18, 1958, a son of Gale Collins, of Ashland, and the late Birdie Howell Collins. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Long Collins, whom he married Sept. 19, 2008.

Terry attended McDowell High School and was a former coal miner for various coal companies in Floyd County. He was a member of the Ashland Eagles, loved hunting, fishing and riding motorcycles. He was also a member of the Ashland International Pentecostal Church of Christ in Ashland.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Wanda Long.

In addition to his father and wife, he is survived by three sons, Terry Dewayne Collins, of Westwood, Scott (Andrea) Willis, of Ashland, and Harley (Danielle) Hale, of Grayson; a daughter, Krystal Walters, of Dayton; a sister, Elizabeth Hicks, of Ashland; his stepmother, Kathy Collins, of Ashland; a special granddaughter, Hadleigh Belle “Belle-Belle” Hale, of Grayson; a grandson, Spencer Bull, of Ashland; two special brothers-in-law, Roger Long, of Ashland, and Mark Long, of Ironton; lots of friends at Sherman-Thompson Towers in Ironton; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton with pastor Dwayne Young officiating. Burial will follow in Hecla Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Scott Willis, Harley Haley, Terry D. Collins, DeJay Hicks, Mark Long and Roger Long. Thelma Lilly

April 26, 1918 — Jan. 1, 2015

 

Beloved mother and grandmother, Thelma Beatrice Lilly, passed away in her sleep on Jan. 1, 2015, at the age of 96. She was born on April 26, 1918, in Lewis County, Kentucky. She met her husband, John Raymond Lilly (deceased), in Hinton, West Virginia, and they wed on Nov. 4, 1940, in Catlettsburg. She resided in Ironton from 1962 until the time of her death.

Thelma loved to read, visit with family, enjoy nature and, when in better health, paint, garden, create crafts and collect and restore dolls. She was kind, gentle, wise and beautiful inside and out. Her home was a place of warmth and love. Thelma lit up the lives of all who were blessed enough to have known her and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, John Raymond Lilly; a son, John Reginald Lilly; and eight siblings.

Left to cherish her memory are two children, Becky (John) Hodgson and Randall (Gena) Lilly; six grandchildren, Robert Lilly, Randy (Tammy) Lilly, Tammy (Mark) Bollinger, Ryan Lilly, Christy (Logan) Jergens and Jessica Lilly; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors with pastor Robbie Merritt officiating. Burial will follow at Restwood Memorial Gardens near Hinton. Friends and family may call from 11 a.m. until time of service at the funeral parlors.

Naomi Hillman

Naomi McComas Hillman died on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, at the Community Hospice Care Center of Ashland. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods. Tina Long

April 7, 1963 — Dec. 31, 2014

 

Tina S. Long, 51, of South Point, passed away Dec. 31, 2014, at her residence. The Ironton native was born April 7, 1963, a daughter of Mary Jo Stapleton McSorley, of Ironton, and the late Fred McSorley. Tina is survived by her husband of 32 years, Ambrose Long.

Tina was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and was of the Baptist faith. She was a deli worker for Tipton’s Market and was an avid animal lover who also loved doing crafts and crossword puzzles.

In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by a brother, Freddy McSorley; a brother-in-law, Ken Elswick; and a niece, Carrie Beth DePriest.

In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by a son, Ambrose Long II, of South Point; a daughter, Mary Estella Long and Shane Blanton, of Ironton; a granddaughter, Autumn Chase Blanton, of Ironton; three sisters, Sherri (Desmond) Friend, Kellie (David) DePriest and Jolinda Elswick, of Pedro; and two brothers, Greg (Michelle) McSorley, of Pedro, and Gary (Sherry) McSorley, of Ironton.

Elwood Wilson Sr.

Dec. 7, 1924 — Jan. 1, 2015

 

Elwood Edmund Wilson Sr., 90, of Ironton, passed away from this life into the next on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015. The Kenova native was born Dec. 7, 1924, a son to the late Raymond and Jessie (Jordan) Wilson.

Elwood was preceded in death by brothers Woodrow, George, James and Reuben; and sisters Rosa, Eloise, Kathyrn and Olmay.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Gretta (Rice) Wilson, whom he married on Aug. 4, 1945; a daughter, Jacque Lynn Wilson (Howard), of Ironton; a son, Elwood E. (Amber) Wilson Jr., of Chesapeake; three grandchildren, Adam H. Wilson, of Ironton, Amy (Les) Davisson, of Ironton, and Jessa Rae Wilson, of Chesapeake; a great-grandson, Luke Davisson, of Ironton; two step grandchildren, Jennifer (Ben) Jitima, of Barboursville, West Virginia, and Aaron Calicoat, of Huntington; three step great-grandsons, Jakob, Jackson and Jarrett Jitima, of Barboursville; special friends, Jeff and Susie Carman; and “his buddies” at the Jolly Pirate Doughnut Shop.

Elwood was a member of First Baptist Church since coming to Ironton in 1952.

During his life he was a heavy equipment operator for Goldcamp Sand and Gravel, Griffith and Wilson Contractors and plant manager for Rollyson Aluminum.

We will miss him and mourn his passing, but not for long. For his family knows just as he knew: Death is not the end, it is the beginning.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home with pastor Eric Barnes officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until the time of service on Monday at the funeral home.

Everett Justice

Sept. 13, 1928 — Jan. 2, 2015

 

Everett L. Justice, 86, of Ironton, passed away Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. The Wilgus native was born Sept. 13, 1928, the son of the late Basil and Amanda Maynard Justice. He is survived by his wife, Maxine Darst Justice, whom he married April 20, 1951.

Mr. Justice graduated from Waterloo High School and Rio Grande University where he received his bachelor’s degree. He was a teacher for Symmes Valley School District for 36 years until his retirement in 1985. Everett was also a Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Army.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 14 brothers and sisters, Rell Justice, Avie Ash, Myrtle Justice, Oren Justice, Homer Justice, Buel Justice, Uel Justice, Myra Wilson, Hattie Justice, Mae Bauning, Amanda (Doll) Lewis, William Justice, Ken Justice and Curt Justice.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David and Denise Justice, of Ironton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Gene “Cosper” Wilson and Karen and Scott Ingles, all of Willow Wood; three grandchildren, Crystal (Jeremy) DeGroot, of Raleigh, North Carolina; Katey (Scott) McMahon, of Waverly, Reese Ingles, of Willow Wood; and a great-grandson, Henry Gustav (Gus) DeGroot, of Raleigh, North Carolina.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home in Ironton with the Rev. Roger Colegrove officiating. Burial will follow in Wilgus Fairview Cemetery.
