PORTSMOUTH — This was one time when a low point produced a high point.

Rock Hill had a season-low eight turnovers to help the Redwomen beat the Portsmouth Lady Trojans 58-53 on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We didn’t turn the ball over. That was the difference in the game,” said Rock Hill coach Greg Damron.

“We did really well taking care of the ball and playing together. We got consistent play and we rebounded well.”

Kaci Russell hit a high point for Rock Hill with a game-high 27 points to go with five steals. Samantha Dillon scored 10 points, Anna Darby grabbed 10 rebounds and Jill Hairston added 8 points including a pair of 3-pointers.

Peighton Williams scored 22 points and Jada Jenkins 11 for Portsmouth (0-10, 0-6).

Rock Hill (4-6, 2-3) jumped out to a 15-7 first quarter lead and pushed ahead 31-18 at the half.

With point guard Madi Damron out most of the third quarter with an injury, Portsmouth rallied to cut the deficit to just 40-38.

But the Redwomen outscored the Lady Trojans 18-15 in the fourth quarter to get the win.

On Thursday, the Redwomen will host South Point.
