Norman Hardy

Nov. 29, 1938 — Jan. 5, 2015

 

Norman Hardy, 76, of Kitts Hill, passed away Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at his residence. The Kitts Hill native was born Nov. 29, 1938, a son of the late James E. and Hilda Bennett Hardy. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Evelyn D. Morris Hardy, whom he married Nov. 13, 1958.

Mr. Hardy attended Coal Grove schools, was a former machinist at AK Steel in Ashland and a member of the Linnville United Baptist Church. Norman enjoyed being a deacon at the Linnville church and a trustee at Aid Cemetery. His hobbies were reading, camping, woodworking, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren. The family would like to give special thanks to caregivers Tammy Haydon, Bertha Bundy and Community Hospice.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Lee Hardy; and a brother, Glendon Ray Hardy.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Jackie (Doug) Thornton, of Willow Wood, SueAnn (Jeff) Dial, of Scottown, and Renee (Scott) Barton, of Pomeroy; 11 grandchildren, Jeremy Thornton, Nicholas Thornton, James Hardy, Chelsea Hardy, Scott (Taylor) Dial, Joshua Dial, Zachary Barton, Morgan Barton, Alex Barton, Andrew Barton and McKenzie Barton; and two great-grandchildren, Riley Thornton and Serenity Barton.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Triplett officiating and Danny Haydon reading the obituary. Burial will follow in Aid Cemetery and visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Donations in Mr. Hardy’s name may be made to Community Hospice, 2330 Pollard Road Ashland, KY 41101. Rayben Owens

March 24, 1962 — Jan. 6, 2015

 

Rayben E. Owens, 52, of Willow Wood, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. Rayben was born March 24, 1962, in Ironton, and was the son of the late Octava Akers Owens and George Owens. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Janice Moore.

Rayben was an ironworker of Local 769 in Ashland for 13 years. He was employed by Special Metals in Burnaugh, Kentucky, for 20 years. He loved his family, playing music with his daughter and all animals. He had a wonderful, ornery smile that could light up a room.

He is survived by his only daughter, (his pride and joy) Katie Owens, of Coal Grove; his ex-wife of 30 years, Paula Owens, of Coal Grove; his girlfriend, Cindy Johnson Chaney, of Willow Wood; one brother, Rodney (Paula) Walter, of Lakeland, Florida; one sister, Kimberly (Randy) Conklin, of Wakeman; and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Sammy Cooke officiating. Burial will follow in Kirby Flats Cemetery and visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Henry Mitchell

Henry Clay Mitchell Jr., 67, of South Point, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, at his residence. Clay is survived by his wife, Kathy Miller Mitchell. A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home in Chesapeake with pastors Tim Jenkins and Evan Melvin officiating. Visitation is at 2 p.m. Friday. Eloise Moore

Eloise Malessa Ash Young Moore, 77, of South Point, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2015. Arrangements are pending at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home in South Point.

 

 

Michael Pickens

Michael J. Pickens, 69, of Proctorville, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Libby Pickens. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville. Burial will follow in Miller Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Dr. Clayton McNearney

Dr. Clayton L. McNearney, 74, of Huntington, died on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John’s Episcopal Fellowship Hall in Huntington with Dana Sutton coordinating. Robert Gibson

Robert Gibson, 79, of Kitts Hill, died Saturday Jan. 3, 2015, at the Huntington VA Medical Center. Private services were held. Brown Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
