NEW BOSTON — The Symmes Valley Vikings used a working vacation to help them in their basketball jobs.

The Vikings haven’t played for two weeks, but they used their time off well and it made a difference as they beat the New Boston Tigers 51-43 on Tuesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“We showed a little patience,” said Vikings’ coach Donnie Saunders.

“We were able to use our time off during the break to get healthy and to work on some things that helped us. It made a difference tonight and we were able to get a win.”

Jacob Klaiber scored 13 points to lead a balanced Symmes Valley offense.

Payton Hayes had 10 points for the Vikings (2-6, 1-3) while Blake Sells added 9 points and Shawn Belville scored 8.

Jared Meade scored 10 points, Kade Conley 9 and Tyler Shonkwiler and Ray Gomez 8 points each for New Boston.

The Vikings fell behind 10-8 in the first quarter but rallied to take a 23-21 lead at the half.

Symmes Valley extended the lead to 35-29 at the end of the third quarter.

Hayes scored 6 points in the fourth quarter to help offset Meade who was 8 of 9 from the foul line.

The Vikings hosts Western on Friday in a league game.
