PEDRO — Young or old, all teams need to win. But in this case, this young team REALLY needed a win.

The South Point Lady Pointers snapped an 8-game losing streak with a 54-40 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Rock Hill Redwomen on Thursday.

“We are a young team and we finally played a complete game,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Dave Adams. “We needed a win and it’s always tough to win at Rock Hill. They play so hard.”

Brooklyn Badgett scored a game-high 20 points and Abbey Winkler had 14 points to lead the Lady Pointers (3-9, 2-4).

Kaci Russell scored 11 points to lead a balanced offense for Rock Hill (4-7, 2-4). Anna Darby and Jill Hairston scored 8 points each and Madi Damron added 6.

Winkler scored 5 points to offset 4 by Damron as South Point took a 13-8 first quarter lead.

Madison Kearns and Badgett scored 4 points each as South Point extended its lead to 26-16. Russell had 5 points for Rock Hill.

Hairston scored 7 points in the third quarter as Rock Hill got within 32-28.

But Badgett scored 11 points including a 3-pointer and Winkler made 4 of 6 from the foul line and had 6 points as the Lady Pointers began to pull away.

South Point visits Coal Grove on Monday. Rock Hill’s game at Fairland has been moved to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
