PROCTORVILLE — It proved to be a wild ride.

Ky’re Allison scored a game-high 32 points — 22 in the first half — as the Portsmouth Trojans built a 13-point halftime lead and then held off the Fairland Dragons 68-60 on Friday in a key Ohio Valley Conference game.

Kendall Reynolds added 13 points for the Trojans who are now 8-2 overall and 4-1 in the OVC. Fairland fell to 7-2 and 3-1.

Chance Short drained four 3-pointers and scored 20 points while Gunner Short had 14 points including two 3-pointers. Kollin Van Horn added 12 points.

Allison exploded for 16 points in the first quarter including a pair of 3-pointers as Portsmouth jumped out to a 24-13 lead. Chance Short had 9 of Fairland’s points.

The scoring slowed down in the second quarter as Allison had 6 more points and the Trojans went up 35-22 at the half.

Chance Short knocked down a pair of triples and scored 8 points in the third quarter as Fairland sliced a point off the deficit and it was 51-39. Reynolds and Allison scored 5 points each for the Trojans.

Gunner Short took over the scoring in the fourth quarter as he got 10 points. Gunner had two 3-pointers and Chance Short hit another trey. But the Trojans converted 8 of 12 free throws — Allison was 5 of 6 — to hang on for the win.

On Tuesday, Fairland hosts Huntington St. Joseph in a non-league game.
