Gallia’s FTs edge Lady Panthers, 57-54

CHESAPEAKE — When the game was on the line, the Gallipolis Blue Angels went to the line with clutch success.

The Blue Angels went 4 of 4 over the final 20 seconds to get a 57-54 win over the Chesapeake Lady Panthers on Monday.

Leading 54-53, Chesapeake turned the ball over and was forced to foul Micah Curfman who hit two free throws with 20 seconds left.

The Lady Panthers turned the ball over again and had to foul Kendra Barnes who made two foul shots with just six seconds to play and it was 57-54.

Chesapeake’s 3-point shot at the buzzer failed to connect.

Chesapeake (6-5) had three players in double figures. Kaylee Curry scored 12 points — she sat out the third quarter in foul trouble — while Atiya Spaulding and Sydnee Hall scored 10 each.

Gallipolis (11-3) had five players in double figures led by Jalea Caldwell with 14 points. Curfman scored 11 while Aurienne Jenkins and Jordan Walker scored 10 apiece.

The game was 13-13 at the end of the first quarter and Barnes scored 8 points in the second quarter to give Gallipolis a 27-25 halftime lead.

Baylee Mills scored 5 of her 9 points in the third quarter but Caldwell had 7 points as the Blue Angels lead grew to 40-36.

Natalie Hall was 5 of 6 from the foul line in the fourth quarter to put Chesapeake ahead, but Curfman and Barnes made their free throws to rally the Blue Angels.

Chesapeake is at South Point on Thursday.
