SOUTH POINT — As the Beatles sang on their Sgt. Peppers Lonely Heart Club Band album, “We’ve getting better all the time.”

The young and inexperienced South Point Lady Pointers won for the second time in three games as they downed the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 45-37 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.

“We’re young, but we’ve started to show some improvement the past few games. We’re getting better but it’s going to take time,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Dave Adams.

Haley Rawlins and Brookly Badgett scored 11 points each and Abbey Winkler added 8 points for the Lady Pointers (4-10, 3-5).

Kaylee Curry scored 16 points to pace Chesapeake (6-5, 2-5).

Chesapeake took a 15-10 first quarter lead as Curry scored 8 points.

South Point cut the deficit to 25-23 at the half as Rawlins and Leah Lawson scored 4 points each and Abbey Winkler hit a 3-pointer. The Lady Panthers had 6 free throws among their 10 points in the quarter.

The Lady Pointers limited Chesapeake to only 4 points in the third quarter and got 4 points each from Rawlins and Badgett as they rallied to take a 35-29 lead.

South Point converted 6 of 9 free throws in the fourth quarter — Badgett was 3 of 4 — to clinch the win.

On Monday, South Point entertains Portsmouth and Chesapeake hosts Rock Hill in a pair of league games.
