PORTSMOUTH — In an effort to help prepare current Shawnee State University students for the workforce, the Office of Student Career Development will provide an opportunity for students to participate in a résumé Clinic on Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the University Center’s Micklethwaite Lobby.

Nikki Karabinis, who is the assistant director for the Student Career Development program, says that the event should serve as a great way for individuals to receive feedback on their résumé in order to improve their overall job outlook.

“It’s essentially meant to be a drop-in type of service, where you can walk in and sit down with your résumé, get some loose-knit feedback, or get information on how to build a résumé,” Karabinis said.

Karabinis says that this event is especially useful for the juniors and seniors out there who have holes left to fill in their resumes from prior experiences.

“The résumé is a document that a lot of students don’t think about building until their junior or senior year, but it’s something that should be built onto from the time you come to school as a freshman, so that way, you can see what gaps you currently have before graduating from SSU.”

In order to get the best feedback possible, Karabinis says that student workers will be there to put each student on the fast track to success.

“We’ll sit down, look at it together, and just make recommendations for each résumé with constructive feedback,” Karabinis said. “Now, if a person shows up without a résumé, we tell them what the essential elements are and give them some information on how to create one.”

The résumé Clinic will be the first of four that will take place in the spring semester, with the others taking place on Feb. 10-11, March 17-18, and April 14-15.
