McDERMOTT — The Rock Hill Redwomen decided to take the harder route.

In would have been easy for the Redwomen to roll over against Northwest on Wednesday, but they battled the entire game only to lose to the Lady Mohawks 49-43.

Rock Hill was coming off lopsided losses to Chesapeake and Fairland on Monday and Tuesday. Despite a third game in as many days, the Redwomen showed a lot of character.

“We could have laid down, but we competed and played hard. I’m proud of the girls’ effort,” said Rock Hill coach Greg Damron.

“Northwest is a very good team and we played right with them. We’ve been through a lot the last two days and we competed.”

It doesn’t get any easier for the Redwomen as they host Ohio Valley Conference co-leader Ironton on Thursday in a fourth straight game.

Anna Darby had 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Redwomen (5-9). Kaci Russell scored 12 points before fouling out and Madison Damron hit a pair of 3-pointers.

Ashley Riley had 14 points while Darbie Jenkins and K’Lee McClurg scored 10 each for Northwest.

Riley had 10 points in the first quarter as Northwest took a 15-13 lead. The Lady Mohawks were up 24-21 at the half.

Northwest outscored Rock Hill 15-8 in the third quarter to build a 39-29 lead.

Darby had 6 points in the fourth quarter as Rock Hill rallied but fell short.
