Thomas Bowman

Thomas Bowman, 76, of South Point, passed away Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at the Hospice of Huntington in Huntington, West Virginia. The Coal Grove, native was born Feb. 24, 1938, a son of the late Alva and Margaret Arthurs Bowman. He is survived by his wife, Janet Bruce Bowman, whom he married April 7, 2007.

Mr. Bowman attended South Point High School and was a retired millwright with the Dayton Malleable Iron Company. He was a U.S. Army veteran and of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Clyde Ray Bowman; two sisters, Edna Snell and an infant sister, Avanelle Bowman; and a brother, Rick Bowman.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five daughters, Cheryle (Oliver) Petty, Kim Vaughn, Lisa Bowman, all of South Point, Teresa Bowman, of Huntington, and Tina Clark, of Coal Grove; two sons, Tom (Christy) Murphy, of South Point, and Brian Murphy, of Ironton; a step-son, John Bruce, of South Point; two brothers, Vernon (Reba) Bowman, of South Point, and Jerry (June) Bowman, of Piketon; three sisters, Betty Bartrum, of Ironton, Bonnie Hill, of Urbana, and Linda (Floyd) Rosembalm, of Hamilton; and ten grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home with pastor Tom Keelen and Pastor John Black officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Goldie Bowman

Goldie Bowman, 97, of Ironton, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015. The Lawrence County native was born Jan. 20, 1918, a daughter of the late Calvin and Susan Blair Harper. She was also preceded in death by her husband of many years, Clifford A. Bowman, who passed away April 7, 2009.

Goldie was a 1936 graduate of Kitts Hill High School and a homemaker. She was a faithful member of the Sugar Creek Missionary Baptist Church for 55 years and lived most of her life in Lawrence County.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Audrey Francis, Dorothy Blair, Margery Howard and Martha Gosnell; and two brothers, Calvin Harper and John Harper.

She is survived by three children, Thomas (Barbara) Bowman, Marilyn (Dale) Rudolph and Nancy L. (Tom) Norris, who all reside on the family farm; granddaughters, Sandra Minsquero, of Ironton, and Katherine Rudolph, of Huntington; great-grandchildren, Justin Aldridge, Victoria and Caroline Minsquero, of Ironton; a sister, Gertrude Trowbridge, of Powell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Tate and the Rev. Mike Long officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery and visitation will be from noon until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Jimmy Kelley

Jimmy C. Kelley, 57, of Franklin Furnace, died on Jan. 18, 2015, at Community Hospice Care Center of Ashland. He was born Oct. 30, 1957, the son of the late Joseph L. and Betty Lawson Kelly. He was preceded by his first wife, Tana Massie Kelly; and one brother, Greg Kelly.

He was a self-employed mechanic. Survivors include his wife, April Stevens Kelley; one sister, Vickie (Chris) Ailstock, of South Point; three nieces, Erica Ailstock, of Cleveland, Nichole (Adam) Holt, of Portsmouth, and Tara Skaggs, of Ashland; in addition to several great-nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Wednesday from and the funeral will be at noon with Father David Huffman officiating at O’Keefe Baker Funeral Home. Burial will be in Junior Furnace Cemetery.

 

 

Elma Murdock

Elma Denise Murdock, 62, of Chesapeake, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015. Private family services will be held at a later date. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, is in charge of arrangements.
