CHESAPEAKE — While the Chesapeake Panthers have been forced to find some offense, they’ve never lost their defense.

The Panthers turned in another strong defensive effort and found some offense in Kolton Webb as they beat the Rock Hill Redmen 68-43 on Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Webb knocked down five 3-pointers and scored 18 points while Nate Smith added 13 points as the duo made up for the absence of leading scorer Gage Rhoades who is sidelined due to a medical issue.

Aaron Thompson also had a big game with 15 points for the Panthers.

“We played very hard right off from the start. They shared the ball well. We didn’t play perfect. Kolton Webb shot well to start the game and Aaron Thompson played pretty well,” said Panthers’ coach Ryan Davis.

The win kept the Panthers unbeaten in 16 games and they lead the OVC with an 8-0 record. Chesapeake visits second-place Portsmouth on Friday.

Nathan Turvey drained four 3-pointers to score 12 points and Austin Collins added 11 points for the Redmen (5-11, 1-8). Austin Barcus added 9 points.

Webb scored 8 points in the first quarter to offset a pair of 3-pointers by Turvey as Chesapeake jumped out to a 21-6 lead.

Webb and Smith scored 9 points each in the second quarter as the Panthers opened up a 43-20 halftime cushion.

Turvey hit two more treys for Rock Hill in the quarter.

Chesapeake led 58-31 after three quarters.

Rock Hill hosts Green on Saturday in a non-league game.
